An Architectural History of Cricket Pavilions

This page relates to an ongoing project about cricket pavilions, their architectural history and development in Britain and the Empire, from prefabricated sheds to massive grandstands.

Lynn presented her paper 'The Architecture of Cricket: Pavilions Home and Away' on 2 September 2011 at the British Society of Sports History Annual Conference in London. Cricket pavilions come in all shapes and sizes, from the former country house pitch at Close House, near Wylam in Northumberland (above left) to the leafy, secluded Ashbrooke ground (left) in Sunderland (home of Sunderland CC) to the famous Jesmond Cricket Ground (right) in Newcastle upon Tyne, now home to Newcastle CC.
